Praise, Prayer and Pondering – December 28, 2011

Greetings friends.

The year is quickly drawing to a close! Soon, 2011 will be complete, and we will step into 2012. What will the New Year bring? We can’t answer that but we can live in confidence knowing that Jesus walks before us and beside us. Happy New Year!

If you are considering making a year-end contribution to EMMC / Go Mission!, you are welcome to access the Go Mission! website at www.gomission.ca and click on the “donate” button on the home page. OR … you can drop off your donation at our offices between 8:30am and 4:30pm on December 29 and 30 OR … ensure that your envelope is postmarked no later December 31, 2011 if you want your contribution to be tax receiptable for the 2011 income tax year.

These information sheets are created to assist with individual and corporate prayer times. You are encouraged to share this with other groups and individuals as appropriate. Pastors, leaders and EMMC church offices receive this email as well. If there is information, prayer requests, updates and events that you would like to have communicated with the rest of the EMMC / Go Mission! family, please send that information to me at [email protected] by 9am Wednesday mornings, and it will be included in the current-week distribution.

Pray that they will listen and observe well, and that their time in Bolivia will be an encouragement and blessing. Bolivia team consists of: Dave and Lisa Janzen – Field Director; Arlie and Eva Peters – School Director at Villa Nueva (currently on Home Assignment); Ben and Lisa Friesen – School Administrator at Villa Nueva; Wayne and Sadie Thiessen – Pastor at Villa Nueva; Bill and Martha Kehler – outreach workers at San Jose.

love, rightly ordered

So often when thinking of discipleship I think of structures and tasks. Even reminding someone to pray and read their bible can miss the point — which is the heart. The point of discipleship is a heart in love with Jesus.

It’s been popular in recent years among groups where there is some college or seminary training to talk about “worldviews.” The point of training is a Christian worldview. And then we measure a worldview change with beliefs — so conversion becomes all about a belief system. Like bible study and prayer, even a Christian worldview can miss the point.

When Jesus talked about the heart of discipleship, he pointed to conversion — a continual turning of the whole person toward God. He talked of loving God with our whole heart, mind and strength. This interview with James Smith reminds us that God is not known if God is not loved.
