thanks Debbie, we all need to be reminded that life in Christ is not a new moral vision, but a new LIFE in the Spirit. "The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts..." Thank God for his boundless mercy!

I wanted to thank you for the reminder in your article. "This approach to the Anabaptist vision resulted in generations of Mennonites learning obedience to Christ, without learning equally that discipleship is only possible because Christ empowers us to follow Him, and without always personally experiencing the reality of the Spirit in their lives." This pertains to me and also to how I raise my children. I pray that God will continue to speak to me regarding this.

Len, this is actually the first time I've been on this site (your artice was a recommended read from a fellow council member). I was finding it a little hard to get into your post at first, however am glad to have read it. I agree with your statements and was really hit with your one paragraph, "This approach to the Anabaptist vision resulted in generations of Mennonites learning obedience to Christ, without learning equally that discipleship is only possible because Christ empowers us to follow Him, and without always personally experiencing the reality of the Spirit in their lives."

thanks Jacob, such difficult circumstances. It's good that we can stand with you in prayer. "Lord, let your victory be seen even over the weather in Durango. Send rain!"

I really enjoyed reading Arlene Friesen's article. I would love more teaching on Advent and preparing for the coming of Jesus. Thanks for the suggested resources.

Thanks for sharing Jacob. This study truly ought to encourage congregations, and especially church leaders to examine the way in which church is done. I have always found the church in general to be the last place I would consider safe to explore theological doubts, and faith struggles...sadly, I can still do that more meaningfully, often at least, with not yet believing friends. To them, it is NEVER about crossing into heresy, but for the church, people slip into that very quickly...so much so, that ANY questioning of scripture, God, church...etc, becomes intolerable. In general, the church is still maintained through fear. It is fuelled by it, and that cause the church to be so absolute in its exclusivity. If there isn't room at the table for sinner, doubters, and "exiles", as Len puts it, then we ought not to be surprised and upset that people want no part! As a pastor within this conference, I live in this tension as well. How can pastors find safe places to explore our doubting, our unbelief, and how can we provide room for us to occasionally cross into heresy while on our journey of exploring a deeper faith? I guess pastors are never supposed to experience these things, though...right? If that is the case, I am in BIG trouble. I also need wisdom here...often, though, I cannot turn to my church, because I should already have those things together in absolute certainty.

i appreciate the update. "Lord may your workers not be discouraged, and that you will bring new contacts as they continue to focus on sharing your love in all the ways that the people relate to"
i am impressed with the rehabilitation center! I believe there are many that would benefit and i trust you will find great staff to work with these folks.
Have a wonderfull Christmas and a happy and productive new year!
